2015 - 2016 Events

SPRING 2016 EVENTS

UNIMARKET: FLEA MARKET

In collaboration with SFU Actions, we brought SFU a sustainable platform to recycle used clothing, accessories, shoes, etc. and replace it with other sweet deals you might spot at our sale! Additionally, for every 2 items you donate, you'll be entered into a raffle for some amazing prizes!

This event was for UNICEF's support of Sustainable Development Goal #12: ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns (*12.5 - By 2030, substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse)

WATER YOU DOING?

Clean drinking water is essential to every aspect of our lives. On World Water Day, the SFU Red Cross Club and UNICEF SFU collaborated to engage the SFU community with local and international issues about access to clean drinking water. Our booths included awareness materials, resources, free candy, and a chance to win prizes.

UNICEF SFU held water taste-tests to see if students could tell the difference between tap, bottled, and water cleaned with purification tablets while SFU Red Cross created a video to share some of your opinions on what water security means to students!

ACCESS TO EDUCATION: CHARITY DINNER

Students joined us at Gulberg Fine Cuisine for an evening of food, speakers, prizes, and knowledge! They learned more about education around the world, the socioeconomic factors affecting accessibility to education, and donated towards UNICEF's Educate All Girls and Boys in South Asia (the Global Out-of-School Children) Initiative.

NO COOKIE LEFT BEHIND

We presented you a feast of tasty treats at our bake sale for Child Education where students could come by and take photos with our emoji cookies! Through sharing your photo and tagging UNICEF SFU, students could also enter our draw to win prizes!

Our menu consisted of: minion cupcakes, emoji cookies, strawberry shortcakes, brownies, coffee, and tea

FALL 2015 EVENTS

BUILD  A  SCHOOL  WITH  GINGY

Teams signed up to learn more about education in developing countries whilst building a gingerbread "school". Trivia was incorporated into the event with questions about education in developing countries and statistics of its accessibility. Teams then received candy and coloured icing for correct answers. These "schools" represented one of the foundations and basic rights that children have around the world. A short description of gingerbread "school" and its representation was then given by each group and the most creative, unique, and meaningful schools received prizes!

THE AMAZING UNICEF RACE

UNICEF SFU held an Amazing Race-styled event to raise awareness for child survival in developing countries. Students participated in various activities throughout the Burnaby campus to complete challenges like putting up a tent, building a fire, and fishing for food. Bonus points were given to those that acquired more facts that were strewn around campus. Teams enjoyed some friendly competition, free food, and prizes!
