PILLARS FOR PAM BENEFIT DINNER

To assist UNICEF in overcoming the huge logistical challenges in aid response to Cyclone Pam, UNICEF SFU organized the "Pillars for Pam" benefit dinner. The night included good food, an auction table, and a toonie toss! 30% of the proceeds raised were donated to UNICEF's efforts in Nepal.

MISS REPRESENTATION FILM SCREENING

In celebration of International Women's Day, we organized a film screening of "Miss Representation," a film about the portrayal of women in media. Attendees enjoyed free food and beverages and a chance to connect with other students in the Global Student Lounge!

FALL 2014 EVENTS

EDUCATION IS...

"Education Is..." was a two-day advocacy event promoting universal primary education worldwide. Students were greeted with the awesome sight of GIANT pencils and erasers as they entered through Blusson Hall. As well, The UNICEF team challenged passerby's to reflect on "what education means to them."

Photos with the hashtag, #UNICEFSFU, were given a chance to win some cool prizes!

HALF THE SKY MOVEMENT

In honour of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Children, we provided free dinner and a movie for students interested in putting an end to inequality. Together, we watched "Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide."

NATIONAL CHILDREN'S DAY

To commemorate the UN's adoption of two documents centered on children's rights, National Children's Day (November 20) signifies a very special date for us, especially as a child focused humanitarian organization.

In honour of this occasion, we celebrated throughout SFU Burnaby with our annual Balloon Campaign. We decorated the halls with hundreds of helium balloons, each marked with a unique fact about children's rights.

LET CHILDREN BE CHILDREN

Did you know that half of all women in Canada have experienced at least one incident of physical or sexual abuse since the age of 16?
Leading up to the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Children, we prepared some visual facts and statistics around campus to raise awareness about the struggles that women and children face worldwide.
We advocate for all people around the globe to #LetChildrenBeChildren.

PROF IN A BOX 2014
Starting off the term strong with our annual Prof-in-a-Box Event, we raised over $1500 in support of child education and development. For Halloween, students at SFU were given the opportunity to watch their professors don the infamous UNICEF box while teaching a full lecture. Only classes who were able to reach their specified targets were able to enjoy this invaluable experience. So, if you want to see your prof wear a GIANT BOX while teaching your class, make sure to take part next year!
